Phil Ivey: A New Kid on the Block

Phil Ivey was born on February 1, 1976. His parents traveled to Roselle, New Jersey when he was just 12 weeks old. He owns five gold bracelets at the World Series of Poker and one title at the World Poker Tour. Phil also holds the record for most final table appearances (8) at the WPT. He is now residing in Las Vegas with Luciaetta his ever supportive wife.

Phil learned to play poker from his grandfather who taught him 5-card stud when he was a young boy. Phil developed his poker skill by playing against his fellow workers at a telemarketing company in New Brunswick, New Jersey in 1990.

Poker tournaments

World Series of Poker

Phil is more interested in playing money games but despite this, he made some major achievements at the World Series of Poker. Phil won three bracelets at the WSOP in 2002 equaling the record set by Puggy Pearson, Phil Hellmuth and Ed Forrest for the most number of victories in a single year.

Phil also won two bracelets at WSOP Pot Limit Omaha, one in 2000 where he beat Amarillo Slim in the final table and in 2005. Ivey had also played well in other main events of the WSOP. Ivey has consistently placed among the top 25 finishers from 2002 to 2005. He finished at 23rd place in 2002, ended in 10th position in 2003 and occupied the 20th position in 2005.

World Poker Tour

Phil also reached the WPT final table eight times. Phil was eliminated in several of these events holding the same initial hand; Phil also ended up in the money eight times at the World Poker Tour final table. In 2008 at the WPT Season 6 LA Poker Classic held in Commerce Casino, Phil finally wins his first WPT title and took home $1,596.000 first prize money. Overall Phil has cashed in around $3 millions in WPT events.

European Poker Tour

In 2006, Phil Ivey appeared at the European Poker tour that was held in Barcelona, Spain. He ended runner-up to Eric Glenne from Norway.

European Poker Masters

In 2006, Ivey went to London to play in the first tournament of the European Poker Masters (EPM). He finished 7th in the London Star Challenge and brought home $12,534).

Other tournaments

Phil Ivey won the 2005 Monte Carlo Millions tourney and the $1 million prize money. Two days after, he earned another $600,000 for winning the FullTiltPker.Net Monte Carlo Open.

As of 2008, Phil Ivey's current live tournament earnings exceed $9,600,000.

Other poker activities

Phil is a member of Full Tilt poker design team. Phil can be seen occasionally participating in online poker games. Phil Ivey also appeared in season 3 of GSN's High Stakes Poker.
